Nightly forays
Arooj Aftab's music is difficult to categorize: The singer fuses jazz with Sufi and classical South Asian music styles as well as folk and avant-garde. Born in Saudi Arabia to Pakistani parents, she grew up in Lahore, Pakistan. She first attracted major attention with her cover version of Leonard Cohen's »Hallelujah«, which went viral. At the age of 19, she moved to the USA to study at the Berklee School of Music. In Brooklyn, she eventually became a central figure in the city's jazz and experimental scene. In 2022, she won a Grammy Award for her meditative ballad »Mohabbat« and was nominated for Best New Artist. Her critically acclaimed latest album »Night Reign« earned her two more Grammy nominations. Join Aftab on a nocturnal foray through memory, desire and Brooklyn, with her longing songs far removed from cultural clichés!
