Aschenbrödel's Dream
A Magical Fairy Tale Operetta by Martina Eisenreich and Axel Ranisch
Based on sketches by Johann Strauss – Volksoper Wien
Immerse yourself in the imaginative world of “Aschenbrödel's Dream“, a fairy tale operetta that connects two eras: Vienna in 1899 and Vienna in 2025. Inspired by a fragment of a ballet project by Johann Strauss, Martina Eisenreich and Axel Ranisch tell a unique, modern Cinderella story full of wit, heart, and magic.
Vienna, 1899: Johann Strauss is working on a new ballet. A talented seamstress, Grete, is mocked by her stepsisters in her stepmother’s fashion salon. But a chance encounter with the painter Leon changes everything.
Vienna, 2025: Niklas, mockingly called “Aschenbrödel“ by his stepmother Alice, discovers an old painting in the attic. Suddenly, time, dreams, and reality blend together – and a fantastic journey of self-discovery begins.
Accompanied by wonderful new music by Martina Eisenreich that captures the creative spirit of Johann Strauss, experience a life-affirming, poetic, and humorous operetta – performed in German with German and English surtitles.
