The Comédie-Française is considered the oldest ensemble theater—founded in 1680 by royal decree of Louis XIV. As part of its anniversary season, the ensemble is visiting us with a guest performance:

Jean Racine's BÉRÉNICE, one of the great classics of French theater literature, tells the tragic story of a pair of lovers: The Roman Emperor Titus and Bérénice, Queen of Palestine, are in love, but Roman law prohibits their marriage. Antiochus, secretly in love with Bérénice, hopes to profit from this situation...

Guy Cassiers casts the same actor in the roles of Titus and Antiochus, the emperor's friend secretly in love with Bérénice, which further intensifies the romantic trio's emotional turmoil in the production.
