Liliom
21.09.2025 - 28.10.2025 | Wiener Burgtheater
Liliom is a crier at the carousel at the amusement park - a loud, rude and yet irresistible suburban Casanova. The piece, with which the visually stunning film and theater director Philipp Stölzl presents himself for the first time at the BURG, was created in 1909 in the final phase of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It tells of a time of social upheaval in which poor and exploited people begin to emancipate themselves. Unfortunately, Liliom's attempts to free him lead him into the demimonde of gamblers and petty criminals: a friend convinces him to commit a robbery. But it goes wrong... and in the end nothing and no one comes to his aid. Not even the sky.
