A story of love, jealousy, power, and betrayal meets breathtaking music: In 2026, one of the world’s most beloved operas returns to Europe’s most beautiful open-air stage – TOSCA by Giacomo Puccini at the spectacular Quarry of St. Margarethen.
Set in Rome around the year 1800, the opera tells the tale of the passionate love between celebrated singer Floria Tosca and painter Mario Cavaradossi. But their happiness is threatened by the ruthless police chief Scarpia, who manipulates Tosca in his quest for power and desire. When Cavaradossi helps a political prisoner, Scarpia uses the opportunity to force Tosca into a cruel choice: surrender herself to him or lose her beloved forever.
Puccini’s emotionally charged score – from Tosca’s heartfelt aria “Vissi d’arte” to Cavaradossi’s powerful “Recondita armonia” and Scarpia’s sinister “Ha più forte sapore” – resonates perfectly in the dramatic natural setting of the quarry.
