Few contemporary artists are as versatile! Plácido Domingo is a singer and conductor, tenor and baritone, with more than 150 operatic roles, celebrated by audiences on stages all over the world.
Described as a Renaissance man by international critics for his universal appeal, he has been honored with honorary degrees and prestigious awards, particularly for his humanitarian work. As a promoter of young vocal talent, Domingo founded the Operalia singing competition. He is also a global ambassador for Spanish culture and zarzuela, following his parents' example.
Plácido Domingo is extraordinarily versatile and, in addition to his career as a singer and conductor, has served as artistic director and general director of the opera houses in Washington and Los Angeles. His concerts with his tenor colleagues José Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti as “The Three Tenors“ are legendary. In addition to his vast repertoire as an operatic interpreter, Domingo is also a pioneer of crossover and the winner of twelve Grammy Awards. He has played the leading roles in the opera films of Zeffirelli (Cavalleria Rusticana, La Traviata, and Otello), Rosi (Carmen), and De Bosio (Tosca).
In addition to singing, he is a respected conductor with more than six hundred appearances worldwide. Since 2009, he has also sung the major baritone roles.
His extraordinary artistic career has now spanned more than half a century without interruption. For this very special achievement, Plácido Domingo has received, among other awards. at the opera houses of New York, Vienna, Verona, Milan and Buenos Aires.
