Schubertiade I
26 January 1821 in Franz von Schober's apartment in Vienna: some of Franz Schubert's friends meet, make music and discuss. The composer lacked the money for large academies such as those organized by Beethoven and the virtuosity to perform as a violinist or pianist. Instead, they met »at the Schober«, where, as in many aristocratic and upper middle-class households, there was a piano. For Schubert, events of this kind, known as »Schubertiades«, were to become a mainstay in his life. He usually played the piano while singer friends interpreted his songs. Inspired by the original Schubertiades, two events will take place at the Wiener Konzerthaus on two consecutive days, with works exclusively by Schubert on the program. The renowned Lied interpreter Julian Prégardien and the up-and-coming soprano Anja Mittermüller, who won first prize at the Wigmore Hall International Song Competition in London in 2024, will be singing.
