Citizen Soldier entstand, als Frontmann Jake Segura in einer psychiatrischen Klinik in Salt Lake City, Utah, den Text zu einem ihrer ersten Songs schrieb. Segura sitzt heute auf der anderen Seite der Therapiecouch und arbeitet als ausgebildeter Traumaberater, um in einer schnörkellosen Alt/Rock/Post/Grunge-Verpackung die Geschichten derjenigen zu erzählen, die mit ihren inneren Kämpfen zu kämpfen haben. Die fünfköpfige Band aus Utah, bestehend aus Jake Segura (Leadgesang), Wonitta (Bass/Piano), Kyle Persell (Schlagzeug), Kooper Hanosky (Rhythmusgitarre) und Matt Duffney (Leadgitarre), geht nicht um die hässlichsten Seiten des Lebens herum und bringt meisterhaft zum Ausdruck, was vielen schwerfällt, in Worte zu fassen. Sie tun dies durch mitreißende, melodische Balladen, mitreißende Instrumentalmelodien und eine mitreißende Erzählkunst.
