Experience Molière's “The Imaginary Invalid“ in an updated version by Barbara Sommer and Plinio Bachmann - a humorous look at hypochondria and profiteering in the healthcare sector.
In his famous play, Molière describes the symbiotic relationship between a self-pitying hypochondriac and his money-hungry doctors. Originally dedicated to the Sun King, who was tragically cured to death by so-called healers, the play shows us the absurdity and tragedy of such medical practices. Molière himself, standing on stage in the title role, succumbed to a fatal haemorrhage during the fourth performance - as if a higher authority had written this macabre punchline.
In the modern rewriting by Barbara Sommer and Plinio Bachmann, the play becomes a “spinning top of hypersensitivity“ - a competition for the dubious honour of being the most vulgar. This production takes a contemporary look at the exaggerated concern for one's own health and the absurdities that arise from it.
