Gogol Bordello

Seit 1999 füllt die internationale Punkband Gogol Bordello um den ukrainischen Frontmann Eugene Hütz Räume mit einer Energie, die eine ganze Stadt erfassen könnte. Ihr aktuelles Album „Solidaritine“ bildet da keine Ausnahme und führt sie zurück zu ihren Hardcore-Wurzeln. Hütz, der sein Leben lang in der Ukraine aufwuchs und die Punkszene liebte, fand Ende der 90er Jahre schließlich seinen Platz in der Lower East Side von New York, wo er sich zugehörig fühlte. Er besuchte Konzerte und trat später im legendären CBGB auf. Er schlief bei Freunden und spielte Akustik-Sets in ukrainischen Bars in New York City. Seine Gruppe wuchs allmählich zu einer achtköpfigen multikulturellen Band heran, die östliche, westliche und lateinamerikanische Traditionen vereint. Seitdem hat die Band weltweit Bühnen erobert, zusammen mit System of a Down, Primus, Rancid und Dropkick Murphys, hat mit Regina Spektor im Duett mit ihnen gespielt und Alben mit den Legenden Rick Rubin und Steve Albini sowie demnächst mit Nic Launay aufgenommen.
