In 1942, Robert Oppenheimer was entrusted with the leadership of the Manhattan Project, whose mission was to harness nuclear fission for military purposes. He set to work with a disparate but equally brilliant team of researchers, consisting of Hungarian Jews who had fled the Nazis. Would such a bomb end the world war? The new play by LEHMAN BROTHERS author Stefano Massini is based on true events and intensifies the various interests behind the construction of the first atomic bomb into an unstoppable chain reaction. The text offers a complex narrative of scientific ambition and human doubt, of cause and effect.
In the context of today's political situation, Stefan Bachmann's first production as BURG director is an urgent exploration of questions of progress and responsibility.
