Shantel & Bucovina Club Soundsystem

Mit seinem internationalen Megahit “Disko Partizani“ wurde Shantel weltweit das hörbare Gesicht einer neuen Musik und Dance Culture. Er war der Erste, der aufgrund seiner vielschichtigen familiären Wurzeln der aktuellen Popkultur einen kosmopolitischen Sound verpasste. Bei Shantel ist Migration hör- und tanzbar. Musikalische Preziosen aus Südosteuropa, Griechenland und dem Nahen Osten erscheinen in einem neuen, vielschichtigen Kontext.

Seine Arbeit als Musiker sieht Shantel als kreative Aufbereitung eines fortlaufenden Diskurses zwischen Theorie und Praxis. Dabei sind die hör-, fühl- und tanzbaren Ergebnisse stets ein Produkt seiner ganz individuellen Auseinandersetzung mit Musik als spezifischer Ausdruck einer historischen, kulturellen, sozialen und politischen Klanglandschaft eines Ortes. Sein Output als DJ, Produzent und Musiker steht dabei schon von Beginn an in dem Spannungsfeld zwischen Tradition + Moderne und Analogem + Digitalem.

Place

WUK is a 12000-square-metre space of culture, workshops, and social gathering. Located in one of the biggest cultural centres of Europe, it is also at the intersection of artistic practice, labour, and political engagement. WUK offers a cultural space where one can contemplate, discuss, and explore. The former locomotive factory is now home to our four main program areas (music, theatre/dance, children's culture, arts at Kunsthalle Exnergasse:), 150 independent cultural groups and initiatives, and educational and advisory projects. WUK provides a venue as well as organizational support to those interested in art, politics, and social engagement. We offer various opportunities to get involved, including the use of the venue and organization support for social, artistic, or political projects. Active participation, self-management, and grassroots democracy form the basic philosophy of WUK. Our association is driven by our employees, friends, sponsors, artists, and visitors.
