Anna Netrebko
At the now traditional recitals, you will experience internationally renowned singers not in the usual opera productions, but with specially compiled song and aria programs.
Throughout an illustrious career beginning in 1994, Anna Netrebko has arguably become a reigning prima donna of the 21st century. The toast of season opening productions at the Teatro alla Scala in Milano or the Metropolitan Opera in New York, a featured soloist at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics, or the first classical music artist named to Time magazine’s annual list of the world’s 100 most influential people, Netrebko has consistently distinguished herself inside – and outside – the world of opera.
In live performance and on numerous award-winning recordings, Netrebko’s portrayals of opera’s most iconic heroines demonstrate a remarkable range and artistic sensibility. Her interpretations span from Mozart operas, bel canto masterpieces (including Bellini’s La sonnambula and Donizetti’s Anna Bolena), French chefs d’oeuvres (Massenet’s Manon and Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette), Puccini (from La bohème to Turandot), Verdi (from La traviata to Aida to Macbeth), verismo (Giordano’s Andrea Chénier and Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur), Tchaikovksy (from Iolanta to Eugene Onegin), Wagner’s Lohengrin to much more. Netrebko’s insatiable curiosity about operatic repertoire promises further role debuts in upcoming seasons.
In addition to regularly headlining productions with the world’s leading opera companies, Netrebko has appeared extensively in concerts and recitals across five continents. Her performances in celebration of the World Cup openings in 2006 at Berlin’s Waldbühne amphitheater and in 2018 in Moscow’s Red Square were both internationally televised events. An exclusive Deutsche Grammophon recording artist since 2003, Netrebko’s extensive discography comprises complete operas, concert repertoire, numerous bestselling solo albums, and a recording of love duets with her husband, Azerbaijani tenor Yusif Eyvazov. Featuring arias by Verdi, Wagner, Strauss, Puccini, Cilea and Purcell, her most recent album, Amata dalle tenebre, was released in November 2021, while her 2016 solo release, Verismo, debuted at No. 1 on the classical charts in dozens of countries.
Among her numerous awards and distinctions, Netrebko has received three Grammy Award nominations, Germany’s Bambi Award, and the UK’s Classical BRIT Awards for “Singer of the Year” and “Female Artist of the Year”. She is a global ambassador for Chopard jewelry.
Born in 1971 in Krasnodar, Russia, Netrebko studied vocal performance at the St. Petersburg Conservatory and completed the Merola Opera Program in San Francisco. An attentive mother, she is an ardent defender of the causes of underprivileged children through the various associations that she has supported for many years.
